The idea that the sculptor is trying to express here is that music is a universal language. Musical instruments - a guitar, a mandolin, a violin and a harp are seen as if floating in space among planets and stars. The essential housing in a pea pod form suggests an organic nature to the origin of our musical drive or instinct. My belief is that even an alien being would have an attraction to what we call music even though they might not have the same response to it that we have. Perhaps they would be drawn to our music as a mathematical puzzle and predict or be surprized by the anticipated rhythms and melodies. Perhaps they would be interested in our musical instruments as machines capable of creating vibrations or waves that are pleasing in some universal way.
